Homeowner Asscociation Restrictions

The green revolution and energy efficiency measures

In the past, and in some cases the present, certain Homeowners Associations would prevent the upgrade from acrylic domes to high performance glass solely on the bases of symmetry.  Holding on to the ‘Brady Bunch Bubble’, for this reason alone, simply does not make ‘green’ sense.

Fortunately, many cities and states have recently introduced measures to limit the restriction HOA's can place on ‘energy efficiency measures’.  This includes skylighting upgrades.  The innovation of low-emissivity coatings (low-e) on tempered glass has more than doubled the resistance to thermal transfer over the last 30 years.  Replacing your old acrylic skylights with energy efficient glass is a simple way to reduce your homes energy consumption.  With this in mind, the barriers HOAs once had are increasingly becoming a thing of the past.
