Denver Designated Solar America City

Denver boosted its national solar stature last week when the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) designated it a Solar America City. DOE Secretary Samuel Bodman made the announcement on Friday at U.S. Senator Ken Salazar’s third annual “New Frontiers in Energy” Summit in downtown Denver.

Along with the designation, DOE gave a grant of $200,000 to Denver to accelerate the adoption of solar energy technologies. Denver is one of 12 cities to receive the Solar America Initiative grants in 2008. The purpose of this DOE-sponsored program is to help cities work out challenges facing homeowners and businesses that want to include solar energy on their buildings in urban areas. These challenges include unnecessary code restrictions and similar rules that cities have the power to change. You can read about the Solar America Initiative on the DOE website listed below.
