Surveys Show Consumer Interest in Solar Homes and Solar Water Heating

Surveys by NAHBRC, Roper Survey, and Sharp Electronics show great interest in solar water heating and solar power.

Numerous surveys in 2007 are helping to define the consumers interest in, and the builder benefits,  of solar homes and solar water heating systems. Many findings (obtained before the 2008 increases in oil and gas costs) indicate a growing consensus toward the desire to utilize solar energy, including :

--- 78% of consumers agree that if their builder had recommended solar water heating for their new home they would have seriously considered it.(NAHBRC 2007 National Consumer Study)

--- 87% of Americans feel that homebuilders should offer solar power as an option for all new homes (Roper Survey Company, May 2007)

--- 65 % said they would pay a premium for homes already equipped with a solar energy systems, and pay at least $ 5000. more to have an energy efficient home.(Conservation Code Council)

--- 82 % said that a decrease in their monthly energy bills is their primary motivation for installing solar.(Sharp Electronics Survey, May 2007)

--- 77 % said motivation would be to reduce oil dependence.(Roper Survey 2007)

--- 75 % said motivation would be to obtain a secure source of energy.(Roper Survey 2007)
