Skylights

Skylights - The light that enters your space from above works so much better because:

1) light traveling down from above puts a shadow under items in the room. (shadows under your couch instead of beside the couch make the room seem much brighter)

2) light tends to reflect onto all walls, spreading the light around the room evenly.

3) Glare from vertical windows causes your eyes to have to adjust from bright light to a dark corner, causing the room to seem much darker than it really is.
