What do you do when your skylight is cracked?

The most common crack that occurs with skylights is usually found on the acrylic glazed skylight. Probably the second most common crack would be found on laminate glass skylights. It is best to repair either crack by either replacing just the glazing or by replacing the entire skylight. Most acrylic crack problems are best solved by replacing the entire skylight, however, it is possible to replace the broken dome only. Glass skylights need to be evaluated to determine the best course of action.

There is a product on the market that activates the molecules of the acrylic glazing and "welds" the crack together. This works best when there is not much separation in the crack and then it doesn’t have a very good appearance. We have found that about 50% of the repairs to acrylic cracks don’t work, so we don’t recommend this type of repair.
